Abstract: There seems to be an increasing development in the idea of Right from Homer to Pindar, although sometimes an impoverishment of the same may be detected in poets like Archilochus. Analysis of Solon’s elegiacs shows progress in a social sense of ideas first put forward by Hesiod. Contrary wise Theognis appears to be an individual thinker who overlapping Archilochus’ egoismus contributes towards the evolution of the idea of Right. It is in Pindar that a new and more complete notion which originated in a religious view of the world and life may be found.
