Abstract: The problem of the v. 1. νασος in Pindar’s II. Olympian (line 78) is discussed in the light of various data. Literary evidence shows that a plural form is to be preferred, since the only other instance of the singular (Eur., He¡., 1677) might be dependent on an early corruption of Pindar’s text. Other instances of such possible corruptions of Doric accusatives in the same poet are referred to and it is noticed that such forms are usually accompanied by glosses, which most probably tended to cause confusion between Doric and Attic forms. On the other hand, the plural νασος is more suitable for expressing an ill-defined, vague and far-off country.
