The Alcestis is the first of the Euripides' plays to interest as for its dramatic construction as for the theatrical conception it presents. The presente study focuses, with more detail, the prologue (1-76) under the point of view of the spectacle suggested by the text. It can be divided into two basic scenes: the first, opening the play, with the Apollo's monologue (1-27), followed by the entrance of Death in anapaistic verses (28-37); the second, with the dialogue between Apollo and Death (38-76). So, in this prologue, Apollo and Death figure the possibilities of denouement of what is still to be staged: the conflict between the life and the death of Alcestis and its development.eng
