Breve estudo sobre o pitagorismo e a concepção de alma como harmonia

Abstract

When raising questions about the Pythagorean philosophers one realizes that they have undeniable influenced other thinkers, including Plato. The Pythagorean interest over science, and specially regarding music, is a clear example of such influence. Indeed music was a very important topic among Pythagoras studies, and until today the examination of its prominence in this context is abundant. Herein, this article focus on the analysis of this influence at the specific case when Pythagoras introduced the notion of soul as harmony, or more properly speaking, as a pitch. Pythagoras established that the soul, thus conceived, has three distinct elements, and this statement, rich in consequences, ended to influence the tripartite theory of the soul in Plato’s Republic.

Ao levantarmos questões sobre os filósofos pitagóricos percebemos que é inegável a influência destes sobre outros pensadores, inclusive Platão. O interesse pitágorico pela ciência e, em particular, pela música é um claro exemplo disto. A música teve grande importância dentro do pitagorismo e, ainda hoje, é rico o estudo da sua preeminência dentro deste contexto. O enfoque deste trabalho é, então, analisar um caso específico desta influência quando Pitágoras introduziu a noção de alma como harmonia, ou mais propriamente falando como uma afinação. Pitágoras estabeleceu que a alma, assim concebida, possui três elementos distintos e esta colocação, rica em suas consequências, acabou por influenciar a teoria da alma tripartida de Platão na República.
