Title: | Uma bucólica grega em Gil Vicente | Other Titles: | A greek bucolic poem in Gil Vicente | Authors: | Ramalho, Américo Costa | Issue Date: | 1963 | Publisher: | Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra, Instituto de Estudos Clássicos | Abstract: | Contrary to Carolina Michaelis’ widely accepted opinion that Gil Vicente, the famous XVIth century Portuguese playwright, only knew a little Church Latin, the author suggests that he may have been more conversant with the learned language than hitherto admitted. Before the end of the XVth century, Latin was well-known and used in the Royal Palace, where Gil Vicente was a frequent visitor. Accordingly, the source of his knowledge of Moschus’5,Ερως Αραπέτης in his Frágua d’Amor, was probably Pontano’s (rather than Poliziano’s) Latin version and not a Spanish or Portuguese translation yet to be found. Previous research on this subject is duly listed. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10316.2/6981 | ISSN: | 2183-1718 | Rights: | open access |
