As problemáticas do livro médico em Portugal nos séculos XVI e XVII: com a bibliografia das obras médicas impressas em Portugal (1496‑1598)

Abstract

This study deals with the Portuguese medical book from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries in the perspective of, on the one side, a bibliographical inventory, updating the bibliography of works printed in Portugal until the end of the sixteenth century, and, on the other, the problematics of the contents and uses of printed books. It provides new elements on the internal production as well as on the main aspects of the market, import and export. Regarding the control of medical texts, it questions microcensorship, or censorship of expurgation, analysing in particular the instructions given by the Portuguese censors in the local Indexes.

Este estudo trata do livro médico em Portugal nos séculos XV a XVII na perspetiva, por um lado, de um inventário bibliográfico, atualizando nomeadamente a bibliografia das obras de medicina impressas em Portugal até ao fim do século XVI, e, por outro lado, da problematização dos textos impressos relativamente aos conteúdos e usos. Providencia novos dados sobre a produção nacional assim como sobre os principais aspetos do mercado, importação e exportação. Tratando‑se do controlo dos textos médicos, o estudo debruça-se sobre a questão da microcensura, ou censura de expurgação, analisando em particular as instruções dadas pelos censores portugueses nos Índices locais.
