Arqueologia e ideologia: o caso germânico

Abstract

Muito se tem escrito sobre a Arqueologia desenvolvida na Alemanha entre 1933 e 1945, nem sempre com o distanciamento que o assunto exige. Utilizada como suporte de propaganda, com tudo o que isso significa num estado totalitário, os arqueólogos não deixaram de produzir trabalho de qualidade, prejudicado por conclusões obrigatórias. Duas organizações tutelaram a Arqueologia deste período, a Amt Rosenberg e a Ahnenerbe, ambas dotadas de impressionantes meios. As consequências do desfecho da guerra fizeram-se sentir durante muitos anos sobre os arqueólogos, vítimas, como outros, do uso das ciências ao serviço da política.

Much has been written about the archaeology conducted in Germany between 1933 and 1945, not always with the objectivity it requires. Used as a form of propaganda, with all that represents in a totalitarian state, archaeologists did not stop to generate work of quality, disturbed only by mandatory conclusions. Two organizations managed archaeology during this period, the Amt Rosenberg and the Ahnenerbe, both with impressive resources. The consequences of the outcome of the war were felt for many years by the archaeologists, victims, as others, of the use of science in the service of politics.
