O convento de São Francisco de Jesus de Monção na Época Moderna

Abstract

O presente trabalho analisa o convento de S. Francisco de Jesus de Monção na Idade Moderna, dando particular relevo aos aspetos relacionados com a vida em clausura, mas estudando também a fundação da instituição e a sua passagem de recolhimento a convento, as admissões, os dotes pagos, as fontes de financiamento e o dinheiro dado a juro. Com as fontes disponíveis, foi possível acompanhar uma instituição desde a sua fundação até ao seu encerramento e compreender a dinâmica de uma instituição feminina de clausura numa terra de fronteira.

The present work analyzes the convent of S. Francisco of Jesus of Monção in the Early Modern Age, giving particular importance to the aspects related to the cloistered life, but also studying the foundation of the institution and its passage from the gathering to the convent, admissions, dowries paid, sources of funding and money given at interest. With the available sources, it was possible to accompany an institution from its foundation to its closure and to understand the dynamics of a female cloistered institution on a frontier land.
