Violência(s) e guerra(s): do triángulo ao continuum

Abstract

Neste texto, sustentamos que a construção tripartida da violência proposta por Galtung (violência física, estrutural e cultural) retira sentido a uma dicotomia entre guerra e paz. A guerra tem sido percebida e teorizada como uma expressão de escala ampla da violência física. Ora, uma análise da trajectória conceptual da guerra permite re-situá-la como síntese de alta intensidade da violência física, da violência estrutural e da violência cultural. E, nesse sentido, sublinhamos o acerto das leituras assentes na noção de continuum de violência em detrimento da clássica dicotomia guerra-paz.

In this text we hold that the tripartite construction of violence proposed by Galtung (physical, structural and cultural violence) removes the sense to a dichotomy between war and peace. War has been understood and theorized as an expression on large size of physical violence. But an analysis of the conceptual trajectory of war allows its relocation as a high intensity synthesis of physical, structural and cultural violence. And, in that sense, we underline the accuracy of the readings supported by the notion of a violence continuum to the detriment of the classical war-peace dichotomy.
