Embaixada portuguesa em Londres nos meados dos roaring twenties

Abstract

The Luso-British alliance is the oldest diplomatic agreement, dating back to the fourteenth century. However, this agreement faced several setbacks, especially in the nineteenth century, when the Scramble for Africa reached its peak. The purpose of this article is to describe the main diplomatic issues of this period, relating to the Portuguese embassy in London, as well as to observe the general functioning of the same. On the other hand, this draft intends to examine the relations between the various political regimes of this period and the different Portuguese ambassadors accredited in London.

A aliança luso-britânica é o mais antigo acordo diplomático ainda em vigor, remontando ao século XIV. No entanto, este conúbio enfrentou várias contrariedades, principalmente no século XIX, quando o Scramble for Africa atingiu o seu auge. O objetivo deste artigo é descrever as principais questões diplomáticas deste período, em relação à embaixada portuguesa em Londres, bem como observar o funcionamento geral da mesma. Por outro lado, este esboço pretende examinar as relações entre os vários regimes políticos deste período e os diferentes embaixadores portugueses acreditados em Londres.
