Portugal, no seu dealbar histórico, face à unidade hispânica

Abstract

A história sobre Afonso I, rei de Portugal, abrange alguns factos, de tal modo imaginários, que, por vezes, a realidade histórica ficou sumida no tempo. É importante, distinguir-se, na vida do fundador da nacionalidade, a história do mito, que, mesmo em certa produção historiográfica mais científica, nem sempre essa distinção transparece com toda a clareza. Há também um género de historiografia que ainda reflecte uma certa génese enigmática do reino português, perante a união dos vários reinos hispânicos, que é preciso desmistificar. Daí a necessidade duma análise, sobre as principais razões da actuação das forças em presença, que deram origem à autonomia política do condado portucalense, já que todas as precedentes manifestações em ordem à mesma pretendida autonomia, embora diferentes, foram votadas ao fracasso.

The history of Afonso I, King of Portugal, contains various facts of such a fanciful nature that sometimes historical reality got lost over time. It is important to tell history from myth in the life of the founder of Portuguese nationality, because that distinction does not always seem to be clear, even in more scholarly historiographic productions. There is also still a kind of historiography that reflects a somewhat enigmatic genesis of the Portuguese kingdom vis-a-vis the union of the various Hispanic kingdoms, and that, too, must be demystified. Hence the need for an analysis of the main reasons why the forces at play, which eventually led to the political autonomy of the "Portucalensis county", acted as they did, given that all previous manifestations aimed at the same goal, although different in nature, had met with failure.
