The purpose of this article is to briefly call attention to the fact that cavalry was not an inferior, weapon during the Principate, as it wasn't the "queen" of the fields of war during the Late Empire. Although its importance increased significantly after Caesar, with its new tactical deployment, cavalry was used with efficacy whenever the terrain and the enemy required it, and whenever troop commanders had sufficient skill to use it efficiently.
