A recriação do orfismo no mythos de Er: a descoberta da escolha do futuro da psyche em Platão

Abstract

One of the most important themes of Orphism is the idea of purifying the psyche of crimes committed both in the present life and in past lives. Its initiation therefore guarantees to achieve the release of punishment after death. Through rituals, as Orpheus himself had done it by practicing the magic enchantment, the initiated person could modify the judgment of the gods in the afterlife. In book X of Republic, Plato presents a narrative that refers to Orphism, the mythos of Er, but with changes and replacements of elements that allow him to recreate the myth, according to his philosophical suggestions. Thus, Plato not only deprives the divine power of the choice about the future of the psyche, but primarily seeks to demonstrate that it is the psyche itself that decides about its own future, in the way that it acts either viciously or virtuously in the present life. Engraved in such actions of the psyche, it becomes a hostage of itself. This recreation of the Orphic myth does not elucidate a re-design of beliefs about metempsychosis, but rather a psychological theory that suggests man as a hostage of his actions and agent of his psychic future.

Um dos temas mais caros ao orfismo é a ideia de purificação da psyche, de crimes cometidos tanto na vida presente quanto em vidas passadas. A iniciação seria, portanto, a garantia para se alcançar a libertação das penas após a morte. Por meio de rituais, assim como teria feito, por prática de encantamento mágico, o próprio Orfeu, o iniciado poderia modificar o julgamento dos deuses no Além. Platão apresenta, no livro X da República, um mythos que faz referência ao orfismo, o relato de Er, mas com alterações e substituições de elementos que lhe permitem recriar o mito segundo suas propostas filosóficas. Com isso, Platão não apenas retira do poder divino a escolha do futuro da psyche como, principalmente, busca demonstrar que é ela quem escolhe seu próprio futuro, na medida em que age viciosa ou virtuosamente na vida presente. Gravadas tais ações na psyche, ela se torna refém de si própria. Essa recriação do mito órfico elucida não um redimensionamento de crenças acerca da metempsicose, mas antes uma teoria psicológica que propõe o homem como refém de suas ações e agente de seu futuro psíquico.
