Abstract: The relations between the East and the West are very old, and their consequences have been felt in both parts of the world throughout history. The analysis of this dynamics made up of diversified contacts is complex and requires the precise definition of geographic and cultural concepts. With different degrees of intensity, peaceful or violent relations have contributed to the shaping of the world we live in, long before globalisation. As a result of today’s world situation, it is absolutely necessary to deepen the knowledge of what has united or divided the East and the West, attending to the realities, both pleasant and unpleasant, that characterize the emergence of new situations.
