As mulheres deixadas para trás na Eneida de Virgílio

Abstract

This paper analyzes five female representations in Virgil’s Aeneid which are similar in the way they were abandoned in their trajectories: Creusa, Andromache, Dido, Trojan women and mothers and Euryalus’ mother. We can observe different reasons why these characters were left behind, as well as, different relationships between these women and those male characters who have left them. In each of the narratives, the male figure follows a path in which wife, lover, mother and woman have no place. Patriotic goals are their priority. The socio‑political context, especially the criticalmoment of the transition between Republic and Empire in which the Aeneid is born, is relevant to analyze which female profiles Virgil is dealing with in his work and what intentions are behind each episode of abandonment lived by these characters. Therefore, attempts will be made to approach the moral reform undertaken by Augustus, highlighting aspects that concern our object of study.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar na Eneida cinco representações do feminino que se assemelham pelo aspecto do abandono em suas trajetórias: Creusa, Andrômaca, Dido, as mulheres e mães troianas e a mãe de Euríalo. Podemos observar diferentes motivos pelos quais essas personagens foram deixadas para trás, como também relações distintas entre essas mulheres e aqueles que as deixaram. Em cada uma das narrativas, a figura masculina segue um caminho no qual esposa, amante, mãe e mulheres não tem espaço. Os objetivos pátrios são a prioridade. O contexto sociopolítico, em que nasce a Eneida, momento crítico entre a República e o Império, e relevante para analisarmos quais perfis femininos Virgílio trabalha em sua obra e quais possíveis intenções existem por trás de cada episódio de abandono protagonizado por essas personagens. Para tanto, tentaremos retomar a reforma moral empreendida por Augusto naquilo que diz respeito ao nosso objeto de estudo.
