A recepção da filosofia grega em Roma

Abstract

Taking the Embassy of Athenian philosophers in 155 BC as the date of admission of Greek philosophy in the Latin world, this article presents some thoughts about the attraction and the repulsion felt by the Roman political elite in relation to Greek philosophy, in particular Stoicism and Epicureanism.

Considerando inicialmente a embaixada dos filósofos atenienses em 155 a.C. como data de ingresso da filosofia grega no mundo latino, o presente artigo apresenta sumariamente algumas reflexões acerca da aproximação e do afastamento da elite política romana em relação à filosofia grega, de modo particular ao estoicismo e epicurismo.
