O nascimento do reino de Portugal: uma perspectiva nobiliárquica (1096-1157/1300)

Abstract

Num texto que se pretende essencialmente de síntese e de reflexão sobre temas há muito debatidos pela historiografia, propõem-se duas perspectivas de enfoque sobre a Fundação do Reino de Portugal na primeira metade do século XII, normalmente apresentadas como se fossem, mais do que complementares, um todo indivisível: por um lado, o papel dos Condes D. Henrique e Dona Teresa e do seu filho e primeiro monarca português, D. Afonso Henriques, na condução de um processo que acabaria por materializar-se, com o concurso de outras forças – nobiliárquicas e episcopais – na criação do novo Reino de Portugal; e, por outro, o papel supostamente determinante da Nobreza em todo aquele processo, antes e depois da chegada ao poder de D. Afonso Henriques, quer nos eventos que conduziram à referida autonomia política quer nas campanhas militares da Reconquista.

In a text that seeks essentially synthesis and reflection on issues long discussed in historiography, propose to focus on two perspectives of the Foundation of the Kingdom of Portugal in the first half of the twelfth century, usually presented as if they, rather than complementary, are an indivisible whole: on the one hand, the role of the Counts Henry and Teresa and their son, the first Portuguese king, D. Afonso Henriques, in conducting a process that in the end would materialize, with the assistance of other forces – Nobiliar and Episcopal – in the foundation of the new Kingdom of Portugal; and secondly, the role allegedly determinant of Nobility throughout that process, before and after the coming to power of D. Afonso Henriques, whether in the events that led to such political autonomy either in the military campaigns of the Reconquista.
