dc.description.abstract | Taking into account discussions of the symbolic meaning of the transformation, in Greek tragedy, of aristocratic women into slaves, and of the function of nutrices in Senecan tragedies, this study seeks to understand how the Senecan characterization of the Nurse reflects the Roman ideas on the relationships between masters and slaves, as well as to deepen the study of the contribution of the Nutrix to the characterization of her domina. To this end, the article makes a comparison between, on the one side, Seneca’s Phaedra, and, on the other, Euripides’s Hippolytus, Plautus’s Epidicus and pertinent excerpts from Seneca’s prose works. | eng |
