Os fantasmas da cidade justa uma análise do mito da Atlântida

Abstract

After musing, on the Republic, on the psychological and organic characteristics of the kallipolis, the utmost beautiful and just city, Socrates rides another wave, we could say the fourth, and is taken, through the mythological sea, to the border of dialectics. On the Timaeus and the Critias, Socrates, as a guest, will be informed on the legends that are told about the mythical Athens and its great rival, Atlantis, and of their fundamental role on the dialectic corollary to the Republic. What role does this myth play, and why is it told by such an ambiguous character as Critias? And what is the purpose of this narrative on the programming of the best possible constitution for mankind? With this contribution, we intend to show the ethical and political consequences of the Atlantis myth on the preparation of Plato’s political cartography

Após ter descorrido, na República, sobre as características psíquicas e orgânicas da kallipolis, cidade justa e bela por excelência, Sócrates cavalga uma outra vaga, poderíamos dizer a quarta, e é levado, através do mar da mitologia, até aos confins da dialéctica. No Timeu e no Crítias, Sócrates, na vez de hóspede, será informado acerca das lendas que se contam sobre a mítica Atenas e a sua grande rival Atlântida, e de como elas ocupam um lugar fundamental no corolário dialéctico da República. Que papel desempenha esse mito e por que é descrito por uma personagem tão ambígua como Crítias? E qual o propósito dessa narração na programação da melhor das constituições possíveis para a humanidade? Com este contributo, pretende‑se mostrar as consequências ético‑políticas do mito da Atlântida na preparação da ‘cartografia’ política de Platão
