Abstract: Many studies assume that Gil Vicente lacked a solid classical training. Although this may be almost true, he knew more about the Greek myth (mainly the Troyan cycle) than it is usually admitted. The reason can be found in his different ways of dealing with the myth. Sometimes we find some mythological references in his plays, whose theme is not classic, other times the protagonist is indebted to the myth; alternatively the myth is hidden in the plays, as it happens, for example, in Floresta de engaños. Its plot evokes the Iphigeneia's legend and one of the characteres, Grata Celia, presents an evident parallelism with Iphigeneia, but this fact is not noticed at first sight.
