Title: | A trilogia de Édipo de João de Castro Osório | Authors: | Fialho, Maria do Céu | Issue Date: | 2006 | Publisher: | Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra, Instituto de Estudos Clássicos | Abstract: | João de Castro Osório is the only example of a trilogic dramaturgy in Portugal. His Oedipus Trilogy, written in 1954, testifies to the influence of Nietzsches’s concept of a Prometheic dimension of a certain mankind – that one of the chosen heroes, whose destiny is to fight against fears and darkness, the so‑called ‘Gods’ who terrify humanity. This is the fight of Oedipus against the Sphynx. The trilogic structure may also testify to an echo of Wagner’s influence. As Wagner sang the Urbild of the German saga, Castro Osório chooses the Greek heroes as the Urbild of our own saga. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10316.2/28083 | ISSN: | 2183-1718 |
