In this study, the author focuses the problem of the archivistic “praxis” among the Cistercian monks of Alcobaça Abbey (Portugal) during the middle ages. Following an introductory discussion of the role of the local ideas about the production of documental “acta”, this study also focuses on the importance of the archive's experience of medieval Alcobaça as a context for our understanding of the practices and theories around the preservation of charters and other primary and administrative sources of monastic Portuguese life.eng
