The biography, the education, the monastic project and the Episcopal action of St. Fructuosus of Bracara are described with idealism on the anonymous Life Vita Fructuosi. The literary genre and also his encomiastic purpose lead us on devaluating her veracity as a true testimony of facts. In this paper we propose to analyse the historical elements contained in Vita Fructuosi, putting them in contrast with other historical sources of Visigoth Spain, and with the works attributed to Fructuosus Bishop, in focusing mainly his monastic motivation and his acclamation to the Metropolitan Church of Bracara.eng
